HR Generations Challenge
“Let’s face it. There are 80 million Baby Boomers who are going to retire over the next five to seven years, and they’re going to be replaced by 40 million Gen Xers. That’s two to one, so you’d better be developing your next generation now if you’re going to be ready for that transition.”Michael White, Chairman, President and CEO, The DIRECTV Group Inc., US

According to the statistics, it looks like it is going to be a big challenge. But, having a huge raise in using the technology and computerized systems, it reduces our worry for not being able to fulfill two to one ratio. However, it is going to be a big challenge to fill 40 million places.
With the recent economic meltdown, our “baby boomers” (once nestled largely in the middle class), have been fractured and divided into, the survivors and the will not be retiring anytime soon camps. I’d be willing to wager, that “80 million people retiring soon” is an estimate on the nuclear high side. Relax, there will be plenty of “boomers” competing for a Gen X’s job for sometime to come.
