North Lake College (NLC) ranked second in RecycleMania’s Waste Minimization category, which means that NLC almost achieved the best recycling rate as a percentage of total waste. In the Waste Minimization competition, colleges and universities are competing to see which one produces the least amount of municipal solid waste (including both recyclables and trash) per person. For the previous four years, NLC won the competition, lowering its average weekly weight in pounds per person from 1.25 pounds in 2008 to 0.36 pounds in 2012.
Since NLC came in second, Mr. Pinman , RecycleMania waste minimization trophy, left North Lake College for Valencia College. We were all sad to see him go, but we hope he will be back next year!
Have you thought about minimizing waste? How much trash do you produce?
